Pre-WWII US Mounted Canteen Set

|
The "mounted canteen/cover" is one of the most sought after parts of a complete GI military collection. The
problem is -- exactly what IS a "Mounted Canteen?" Some say it's for the calvary to hang off their
saddles; others say it's for mechanized soldiers and is be attached to a vehicle. The truth is somewhere in between
as both parts of the Army used such items. This set consists of a standard mounted canteen cover with the leather
strap (broken, but can be replaced) and a rawhide strap that another owner put on. The cover is marked "J.Q.M.D.
1935" on the back. The canteen and cup are both marked "U.S. L.F.&C. 1918" and are in GREAT condition
with normal wear showing on both items. This one of the nicest original "mounted canteen" sets we have
come across in some time! Don't let this one get by!!
"Aeronautics Aircraft Spotters' Handbook" dated 1943

As stated on the back cover: "For every member of the Aircraft Warning Service, Every member of the Armed Services, Every
student of aviation, and Every air-minded citizen! This brand-new, complete, and authoritative guide contains over 1,300 photographs
and 3-position silhouettes of the world's leading war planes -- both Allied and Axis types. It includes the amazing new 2-line
'Friend or Foe' Flash Identification System. All recognition characteristics based on the famous WEFT formula."
Over 350 military aircraft are described and illustrated, including over 90 American warplanes, 70 British, 60 German,
30 Japanese, and 40 Italian planes. Also described are Russian, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Spanish, and French aircrafts along
with Barrage Balloons, Blimps, and Rotating Wing Aircraft. The cover does show wear but all of the pages are still stapled
intact and even the envelope in the back where you could order more copies for $1 each is still attached!
So, if you're interested in military aircraft, enjoy reenacting Army Air Corps, or want to sit in a Ferris Wheel on the
pier and protect our shores, this is the book for you!
WWII-era Ration Heating Fuel Tablets

|
These unique little items are cans of "Wood Alcohol, Fuel-Tablet, Ration Heating" that the WWII (and after) GI used to
heat up his food or drink in his mess kit or canteen cup. These cans are shown on page 181 of Government Issue, Volume
1. It should be noted that the US Army also put the instructions on the lid along with the notation that the liquid and
tabs were POISON. So don't drink it!
These items were used from WWII through the Korean War and into the 1960s. Only with the advent of the flameless
heaters in the MREs did these items fade out of the army inventory.
We have six of these little cans available and they are all in very good shape with just a bit of surface rust that does
not detract from their appearance. They are all unopened(!) and when you shake them, you can still hear the liquid inside.
A great item to add to the GI collector or reenactor's display
EM 700 Bookkeeping and Accounting Course 1

|
It's 1943 and you're sitting in a foxhole wondering what lies ahead for you after the war. Going home and continuing
to kill others isn't really an option -- so how about preparing for a career? Maybe become a bookkeeper, or even an accountant?!?
Then you could just bore them to death! (No offense to our accountants who keep our books so spotless!)
The United States Armed Forces Institute realized that men and women who were serving in WWII needed something to occupy
their down-time (yeah, right) and might want to learn a trade that they could capitalize on once they returned to the homefront.
These self-teaching courses allowed soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and Coasties to earn a Certificate of Completion that
could possibly be accepted by an institute of higher education back home where they could earn their degrees. Sort of the
extreme-learn-from-home system we have now but without the Internet!
This book is Course 1, Fundamental Principles. It's 122 pages of everything you ever wanted to know about how to keep
ledgers and transactions. Included is Bookkeeping 1, a High School correspondence course booklet that accompanies EM 700.
This booklet is your instructor and had envelopes included for submission of the lessons. Whomever originally owned this obviously
wanted that certificate because the envelopes have been torn-out, but the rest of the book is all there!
These are in excellent condition and would make a great addition to your collection! And reenactors -- the next time
you're waiting for the enemy to show up, impress your cohorts by learning a little something out there in the woods!

WWII 18th Field Artillery unit crest

|
#CC301 The 18th Field Artillery Regiment was stationed at Fort Sill prior to WWII and had both 75mm and 155mm guns.
In 1943 the regiment was broken up and became the 18th Field Artillery Group, and the 685th, 687th, 689th, and 693rd Field
Artillery Battalions. The 18th Field Artillery Group, 687th, 689th and 693rd all served faithfully in Europe until war's
end.
The unit design was approved on October 2, 1923 and is based on the shoulder sleeve insignia of the 3rd Infantry Division.
The bend and bendlets are from the arms of Champagne. The regiment was organized in 1917 from personel of the 5th Field
Artillery. The fishhook and star on the canton are from the coat of arms of the 5th Field Artillery. The union battle
line of Gettysburg was in the the shape of a fishhook. The corps badge of Major General Henry W. Slocum's XII Corps was a
star.
This will be an excellent addition to any field artillery collector or WWII reenactor display or collection!

"Views and Facts of Berlin" Book prepared by the 78th Division Special Services Office

|
This little book is just fabulous! It was prepared under the direction of the 78th Division Special Services Office
and was written by 1st Lt. Cedric L. White of the 309th Infantry. It was designed to help the American soldiers and
civilians tell their families and friends about Berlin.
Featured are many pictures from the war along with those of activities and facilities available to the American soldiers
by the American Red Cross, the Special Services Offices of the Army, and other welfare organizations. The book shows
how the Army of Occupation can have a pleasant time while taking in a movie, using the newly repaired public transit systems,
or visiting the PX, barber and beauty shops, as well as the nice apartments found in the Onkel Tom's Hutte area (named such
by the Germans after the publication of Uncle Tom's Cabin).
The pages are all intact and in excellent condition. There is writing on the cover as shown in the photo and a
stamp on the inside cover & on the back outside cover showing the name of the original owner, "Adolf E. Schroeder." There's
also a stamp on the inside front cover showing that this book had been used in the Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages,
University of Missouri.
A one-of-a kind find for any WWII- or Post-WWII-era memorabilia collector!
WWII Allied and Axis "Pocket Change"
It's said by many that a true reenactor not only wears the right items, but has the "correct change" in the pockets as
well. But not everybody has the time to go through tons of unsorted coinage at a coin show (it's teadious, trust
me).
So to fill that void, we have the following packages for both Allied and Axis reenactors:
Allied Coin Package
Consists of 10 US and Canadian pennies, 3 US nickels, a British 3 pence piece, a 5 French franc coin and several
different pre-war and war-time civilian tokens. All the coins will have 1945 or earlier dates and they are of course
in used condition. Price: $8.00/set
Axis Coin Package
Consists of a German war-time coin, an Italian coin, 2 Vichy French 1 franc coins and 1 Vichy French 2 franc coin.
Again, all the coins will have 1945 or earlier dates and they are of course in used condition. Price:
$5.00/set
WWII FM 5-20 "Engineer Field Manual - Camouflage," 1940

|
Interesting manual on how to camouflage vehicles, equipment and oneself. 52 pages. Camouflage is an important
part of military life, the better you can't be seen, the odds are the 1Sgt can't find you for some crap detail.
Front cover has owner's name and army service number inked in (guess he wanted to make sure no one else walked off with it!). Excellent
condition.
WWII Brazilian Army Officer's Buckle

|
When most people think of the WWII Allied Forces, one that doesn't
usually spring to mind is Brazil. But, in 1943 the Brazillian government sent a division of troops to fight alongside
the Americans and Brits in the Italy Campaign. The 1st Expeditionary Infantry Division of the Brazilian Expeditionary
Force (say that 10 times fast) fought very well and covered itself with honors. This belt buckle is the
officers-style made in bronze and dates from the WWII-era. The two-piece design allows it to fit snugly together and
still holds tight. It's a gorgeous piece with the marking "Langone S. Paulo" on the back of the domed insert and an
"A" on the flat part of the buckle where the insert sits. A great piece for any WWII Brazilian Army or Allied Forces
collection!!
WWII Defense Against Chemical Attack, FM 21-40, 1942-dated

|
War Department Basic Field Manual, Defense Against Chemical Attack, FM 21-40, dated September 7, 1942. 282 pages
of important information on employment of chemical agents, protection, organization for defense, tactical protection, use
and care of indiviudal protective equipment, decontamination, military animals in chemical warfare, and training in defense
against chemical attack. The original owner has marked areas he was required to know (even in the section on protecting
horses), so this is a great study guide for those desiring to learn more about WWII chemical attack preparations. Many
photographs and illustrations. A great item for the WWII reenactor or the chemical warfare collector!
UNISSUED Pre-WWII USAAC Instrument Flying Certificate

|
This UNISSUED (never used) Form No. 8-A War Department Air Corps certificate for Instrument Flying for the "Air
Corps Unitied States Regular Army" is only 2 1/2 by 4 inches in size but is one of the most unique items we've come
across in our search for military items. The little certificate was to filled out with the name and rank of the
person who passed the test, place and date of the test and the commanding officer of the unit. Our best guess is that
the little certificate was either carried in the wallet or in the flight log of the person who took and passed the test to
prove that they were qualified. We've seen filled-out certificates before , but never an unissued one, ever.
This item is in near-mint condition (considering it's age) and would be a great addition to the WWII-era Army Air Corps
collector.

#CC308 We were at an auction and we saw this shovel stuck in with a number of modern'day shovels. The
shovel part we recognized instantly as a WWII US Army GI field shovel, but we were surprised to find it attached to
a longer handle. The shovel is just over 28 inches long and the handle shows traces of olive drab paint.
In fact, we were going through a number of books in our extensive reference library trying to nail this item down and
while everything we saw was close to this shovel, nothing we saw was exactly the same. Then we had it on our
table at a gun show recently and a WWII vet saw it and told us that he hadn't seen one like that since 1945 on his "swimin'
jeep." He didn't remember the jeep's name but he said that he remembered the shovel because he'd had to dig the jeep
out a number of times.
A neat item for the WWII vehicle collector-- so don't let this one get away!
