The World's Submachine Guns, Vol. 1

|
There are times when one is searching through dusty stacks of old books that one thinks, "Is this really worth it?"
This time, it was.
We've found yet another copy of "The World's Submachine Guns, Volume 1" by Thomas B. Nelson (with the assistance of Hans
B. Lockhoven). Ths is a rare and highly sought-after book on the data and history of over 300 submachine guns and machine
pistols. This particular edition was published by TBN Enterprises in 1986 and is the revised edition.
This book is considered to be one of the BEST sources for information and has well over 300 b&w photos on 738 pages
of every possible submachine gun that was ever produced in various countries.
The book is in near mint condition with the exception of the paper dustcover which has some slight tears on the edges
and the back has an ink drawing of a bird's head on it (looks like someone was tracing something with a carbon and didn't
watch what they were doing). But it doesn't detract from the fact that the rest of the book is in A-1 condition! A fantastic
book to add to any automatic weapon collector's or miltary firearm historian's library!
Glass Homefront "Saucer Hat" Powder Jar

This WWII "Home Front" or "Sweet Heart" item is a hard item to describe.
It's made of thick clear glass and comes in two parts. The lower part is in the shape of a WWII enlisted man's saucer
dress hat and has the correct "eagle" side buttons and larger "eagle" on the front. The second part is the lid or top
of the hat. This has been mirrored and still shows a reflection very well. The size is about 2 1/2" at it's highest
point and about 4 1/2" in diameter.
I've seen this item described as both a candy dish and a container for a woman's
make-up items on her bedside table. I'm more inclined to believe the second due to the mirrored top.
This item is in excellent condition with NO cracks in either piece! It's
the first time I've ever seen the top along with the bottom and in clear glass, not yellowed.
"Forty and Eight" Medal

|
This 2" x 1 1/2" medal with attached ribbon is the "Forty and Eight" Medal
from the American Legion. This medal is based on the French boxcars that hauled American Doughboys to the front lines
in WWI. The boxcars were called 40 and 8 because the railroad cars could either carry 40 soldiers or 8 horses!
The only way to get the medal is be a member in good standing in the American
Legion, membership is by invitation for members who have shown exemplary service. All Forty & Eight members are
thus veterans of congressionally recognized wartime periods via their Legion membership. It's an excellent piece of
post-war veteran service!
Pre-WWI (Spanish-American War?) 4th Infantry, Co. M cap device

|
#CC299 Everyonce in awhile we get in items that really interest us. This item is a cap device of a hunting
horn (what denoted infantry prior to the adoption of crossed rifles in WWI) with a number "4" in the center and the letter
"M" on top. The item has a screw back and is 2 inches high and 2 inches wide. It appears to be made of brass and
is in excellent shape for it's age.
Our best guess is that it's from either the late Indian Wars or the Spanish-American War period. A rare item
from that period!

Foreign Legions of the Third Reich, Volume 1

|
Foreign Legions of the Third Reich, Volume 1: Norway, Denmark, France by David Littlejohn. Published by
R. James Bender Publishing, Copyright 1979 (1987 2nd Printing). During WWII, the Germans didn't fight alone.
They called upon many "volunteers" from the countries they either captured or with whom they were allied.
For the most part, these "Foreign Legions" are now forgotten except to those who have studied the Third Reich intently
and/or reenact some of the "volunteer" units. This long out-of-print book covers the military and para-military
organizations of Norway, Denmark, and France that fought with the German army. The 208 pages are crammed with original
photos and color plates detailing badges, cuff titles, patches, posters, and just about anything else worn or used by these
units. This is only Volume 1 of the 4 volume set -- and you'll certainly want the others after you've read this
one! If you buy/sell/collect WWII German militaria and have run across that oddball item you just can't seem
to identify, it's probably in this book! If not this one, then one of the other 3 in the series. We use them
extensively when looking for new items so we can make sure our customers get what they're paying for and know what each
item is. A definite MUST HAVE for any WWII collector!
Unknown Ammo Pouch

We like to consider ourselves experts on the items we sell. We take pride in our vast knowledge of militaria and odds-and-ends
so that we can provide quality service at reasonable (to us) prices. But, sometimes, there are things that no one can explain!
For instance, we recently found this ammo pouch at a yard sale. I know, it's the middle of winter but we're still out
there! We asked the owner what it was designed for and she had no idea. We brought it home and looked through our library
of research books and could not find another like it. We took it to a reenactment and asked numerous people who have familiarity
with items like this on a scale much greater than ours -- and no one knew what it was!!
So, here's what we've got. It's 8-inches by 11-inches and has three main pouches and two smaller ones. It's made out
of a thick canvas material but there are NO markings ANYWHERE on the item. There are webbing belt loops on the back and leather
attachments on the front (see photo). It looks brand new but we're baffled as to what this could be.
This has to be for something that uses straight magazines, so that leaves out the AK-47 or M-16. It looks too big for
an M-3 and even our Thompson SMG magazines are too small for it. Here's your chance to have something that's stumped us --
and you can even make-up what it is if you buy it! Now how great of a deal is that?
Vietnam-era to Modern Basic Training Flag Streamers

|
We recently picked up a large collection of these US Army Basic Training Flag Streamers and we are amazed at the variety
we have here!
During basic training, a company sized unit is issued a US flag or a guidon on a pole and it is carried everywhere the
unit goes. As the weeks go by the unit has the chance to be "awarded" a streamer for completing various tasks such as
rifle training, drill & ceremonies, etc. With great fanfare the streamer is attached and the unit moves on to the
next part of training. When the cycle ends, the streamers are removed and the flag/guidon is rolled up to await the
next cycle where the process begins all over again.
We have the following streamers available: BRM (x9), D&C 8 (x3), EOCT (x6), SAFETY (x4), LDRSHIP (x1), HONOR
PLT (x1), APRT (x1), FINAL APRT (x2), BPFT (x3), and FTX (x1). These are various lengths (18" to 28"), colors, means
of attaching, etc. We also have two blue streamers with no letters at all, suitable for making an unique streamer for
your unit. We also have a blank yellow guidon as well.
All of these items are in very good condition, please contact us prior to ordering if you need a certain color
or length (not all of them are in the picture, there are variations). These items would be a great addition for one's
unit flag, collection, or a great gift to the old soldier who suffered through basic training, but now looks back happily
on those "old army days."
"Viet Nam" Bamboo(?) Cups

|
This set of 6 "Viet-Nam"-marked cups are some of the nicest of the "GI bring-back"
items we've seen in a long time. The cups appear to be made from bamboo (the "wood" looks very fibrous) and the color
of the "wood" varies from a golden color to a darker wood shade. All of the six cups are similar (but not totally) in
size and construction. Each cup is about 4 1/2 inches high and about 2 1/2 inches wide.
This set would look great as part of a Vietnam collection or display for the
collector or reenactor!
325th General Hospital Distinctive Insignia

|
This distinctive unit insignia is for the US Army 325th General Hospital.
The DUI is clutch-back and has a "G23" hallmark on the back. The design was "officially" approved in 1970, but the unit
has been around since WWII where it was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation and was in the campaigns for Northern France,
Rhineland, and Ardennes-Alsace. The DUI is in very good condition and would be a great addition for the Medical
Corps collector!
